Broome: Island Peninsular

Broome, Western Australia.

Even if it were entirely possible to exhaust the expansive continent of Australia, though, I very much doubt it, there would still be more, much more, to see, do, explore and discover. That said, sometimes it’s nice to feel small again. All is not lost, Western Australia has the answer with its beautiful northern peninsula’s: Monkey Mia, Exmouth and Broome.

The furthest north of the three: Broome, so north I decided to cover the distance by air, adding to the feeling I had flown to a pacific island. Heavily influenced by the Pearl industry and the large Japanese community that made the area their home,

it feels tropical and very Asian in parts, although still definitely Australia.

Photographically, this is a place well covered. Google it; most of the good stuff had been done, to death. Still, I had four days to play, a rental car and a plan to shoot, shoot, shoot!

Broome quickly found its way into my top ten; the super flat water of the 22km long Cable beach was the perfect place to spend an entire day, taking the hired wheels straight onto the beach surrounded by more serious 4×4’s! (Who listen’s to ‘not on unsealed roads’ anyway), and the scantily clad OAP’s; this was also Australia’s most famous nudist beach!

Phenomenal colour will be the lasting impression, a huge part of why Western Australia is so appealing. Shooting stunning blues all day; burnt orange, red, and yellow in the evening. Finishing out the day in top brewery Matso’s for a very refreshing mango beer and a curry. I want to go back already!
