Buddhist Shrine, Near Ise, Japan

A pair of shoes hang in front of a memeorial to a loved one in a Japanese Bubbhist cemetary (Philip Hill/Phil Hill)

Buddhist shrine

On the way to Toba we passed through Ise, home to the largest and most holy Shinto shrine in all of Japan (visit planned next week). Just outside was a Buddhist shrine and what I was told was also a memorial with each staff representing someone who has passed away. Objects have been placed on some of the staffs by loved ones to help guide the spirits on their journey.
