Million Dollar Sandpit

New Topographics. Perth, Western Australia.

Suburban Australian expansion is rapid. The mining boom was followed by the need for new homes. Homes created for those flocking to the Western Australian capital and a booming economy. Unfortunately for the newcomers, new suburbs are sterile, usually baron, and completely bereft of any proper infrastructure. As a result, migrants are left with a cross between 1950’s American dream and its lure of home ownership and the ‘New Topographics’ quietly subverting this ideal through a banal microscope.

Unattractive empty plots are a sand-filled waste land. Frequently the highly sort after plots sell for between 1-2 million dollars. Before a home is even built on the site.
