Instagram – Dog in a Ute

Dog in a pick up truck, Instagram image(Philip Hill/Phil Hill)

There is a town in Western Australia that holds a world record.

A simple idea, and Australian tradition, if you own a pick up truck or ‘Ute’, let your canine friend ride ‘shotgun’, then get yourself over to Corrigin in the wheat belt region of WA. Made famous for the largest convoy of ‘dog in a ute’, a total of 1527 in 2003, another Australian tradition pays tribute to this in the form of a very large black fibreglass pooch.

This was a rather mean looking dog spotted in a car park on a WA road trip, guarding the unfastened canvas cover of his owners tray-back. I dared to take a picture on my phone, a quick Instagram, the quickest, I think he may have eyed up my mobile for a snack as if it were the small green fruit of its namesake, more likely my forearm.
